This is a Pilgrims in Mission opportunity offered through the United Church’s People in Partnership program.
General Objectives of the Consultation are :
- To host a consultation which brings together faith leaders, LGBTQIA+ community members and other global ecumenical partners in conversation on working together in God’s mission for fullness of life for all.
- To provide opportunities for transformation through sharing personal and community stories, pastoral perspective and creating safer spaces for dialogue in the African region.
- Explore the diverse and specific contexts, cultures and challenges in Africa, and the intersecting systems of power, faith/religion, and human rights, as they relate to human sexuality and gender diversity, and how the churches are responding to these challenges
- To construct a consultation report as a map, a resource, and an action plan for the transformation of churches and societies, with a specific concern for gender justice and to end religious-induced homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
