The Office of The Moderator and General Secretary is seeking individuals to fill the role of Leadership Coordinator. This is a 10-week program at 35 hours per week with an anticipated start date of June 30 or July 1, 2025.
The Leadership Coordinator’s work will include conducting regular team meetings, training and leadership development, and mentoring and tracking engagement of Leadership Animators. They will, at times, work remotely and will need capacity for online communication and learning. The Leadership Animators are a cohort of high school and university students who are at least 50% Indigenous/Racialized.
There are five main goals for theLeadership Animator Program:
- Leadership development and peer supervision;
- Vocational discernment
- Event planning for both Youth Forum at GC45 and local 100th anniversary celebrations in conjunction with local communities of faith
- Visioning and strategy development
- Developing skills in anti-racism and right relations
The Leadership Coordinator’s work will include training, leadership development, education, living in community, and event planning. Coordinators will be required to travel to Calgary AB to attend and provide leadership at GC45, the triennial gathering of the denomination to set policy and directions into the future.
The Leadership Coordinator will spend 5 days with the Leadership Animators in Toronto at Emmanuel College for a time of learning and community building from July 7-12, 2025.
Leadership Animators will be responsible for submitting all employment paperwork and reading any necessary training materials at the beginning of their employment. They will connect with other young people across the church who are engaging in leadership and decision-making and will supervise the team of leadership animators in their work and offer feedback, mentorship, guidance, and program implementation.
This position will support Leadership Animators in developing relationships with local communities of faith to assist in planning and leading 100th anniversary celebrations of The United Church of Canada; will attend online training and program planning throughout the summer, as well as planning and providing programs in local settings and will be responsible to regularly check in with Leadership Animators during their remote work; plan and lead virtual meetings; plan learning opportunities; and provide support as needed. When in residence together, coordinators will be responsible for meal planning; daily check ins; evening vespers; and periodic field trips
The Leadership Coordinators will learn about the polity, ministry, and history of the United Church in their local context as well as in the national context and will offer support and leadership to the Leadership Anmators that are developing the program and schedule for Youth Forum at GC45. They will help them communicate their events and plans to others in the church, particularly in their regions.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the following requirements:
- Youth between the ages of 18 to 25 are eligible to apply for this position
- Post Secondary education; Education or training in education and child and youth work
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Previous experience within program design and church program work
- Excellent professional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to prioritize tasks under pressure
- Competency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively on Teams and with a wide range of individuals through various means of communication (e-mail, phone, in-person, etc.)
- Personally accountable, ability to work independently and with limited direct supervision
- Reflect the commitment to a cohort that is 50% Indigenous/Racialized
- Have a government-issued ID acceptable for travel documentation
- Familiarity or Knowledge and basic understanding of the United Church is an asset

Compensation
Salary will be at $24.60 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
