Chinook Winds Regional Council is searching for a Campus Minister, Campus United Calgary on a permanent part-time basis (14 hours per week).

Reporting to the Team Lead, First Third Ministry, the Campus Minister is responsible for providing community, hospitality, pastoral support, leadership development, and faith formation for the university community. While pastoral care, spiritual counselling, and social activism are aspects of the ministry, the central work is to foster a vital campus community that engages participants in discernment as to what it means to follow Jesus in the context and identity of the United Church of Canada. The campus minister will function as a member of the multifaith campus ministry teams at the various universities.

Position Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and life experience;
  • 3-5 years related work experience, particularly in theology and in ministry with young people.
  • Continuing theological education is an asset;
  • Mental Health First Aid for Adults who interact with Youth – Mental Health Commission of Canada, or equivalent;
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR-C/AED;
  • Commit to Kids – Canadian Centre for Child Protection and FoodSafe, Level 1;
  • Knowledge of The United Church of Canada and its organizational structures;   
  • Significant experience developing and leading youth groups, programs and/or networks;
  • Strong leadership, organization, teaching and group process skills and experience;
  • Experience working with students and young adults, particularly, experience supporting student wellness and providing emotional and spiritual support;
  • Skilled networker who is able to build and support various kinds of connected relationships throughout the university and communities of faith;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills together with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
  • A commitment to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries at all times;
  • Solid understanding of and ability with communication and social media tools; Web design or graphic design are assets;
  • Experience in successfully managing grants, finances and budgets and experience in event planning and fundraising;
  • Ability to obtain a sacraments license would be an asset;
  • Fluency around questions of faith; and ability to work independently, without close supervision or leadership.

Working Conditions

The Campus Minister works from the various campuses in the Calgary area, office space might be available at the university multi-faith centres, otherwise they will work from a home office. The incumbent will be provided, for work purposes, use of secure devices and must be available by email, phone, teams or zoom during regular office hours Monday to Friday. Sitting and viewing a computer screen for long periods, keyboarding/using assistive devices or software, intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing and being on the phone for long periods of time will be required. Occasional attendance at evening and weekend meetings, with due notice, will be required. Occasional additional hours may be required.

Compensation

Salary for this position is within a salary range based on category 7 with a pro-rated annual salary of $27,681.91 to $36,909.20. Placement on the salary range will be based on factors such as market condition, internal equity, candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role. Pension and group benefit plans coverage and annual vacation round out this compensation package.
