Anticipated Start Date: May 12, 2025
Description
ATTENTION: All GenZs who are members or associated with The United Church of Canada
We are looking for a NEW cohort of 6 youths ages 18–26 years old who identify as Indigenous or Racialized, and are interested in participating in a 10-week research program. The program provides a space for 3 Indigenous and 3 Racialized youths to highlight their racial identities and the issues that impact their communities, through doing research on a topic of their choosing, writing an essay, and presenting their findings in creative ways.
Each researcher will aim to reflect “bold discipleship, deep spirituality, and daring justice” from the lens of current youth realities. Each project will be an exploration of a particular issue that will contribute towards building youth leadership skills capacity and contribute to making systemic changes within the church. In addition, the findings from this project will be shared among different communities of faith in the United Church by the participants through brief presentations of their research using creative art forms.
This program entails:
- 10 weeks of research
- Beginning May 12th (orientation), and ending on July 11th
- Presentations will be from July 14th–18th
- Additional presentations will vary
- Weekly “mandatory” attendance for individual and group check-ins over Zoom
- Location: Youth will work remotely on their projects
- An allowance (in the form of an honorarium) will be available to all selected applicants.
