The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province; Dr. Pardy nominated for her humanitarian efforts
At an investiture ceremony on October 8, 2026, The Very Rev. Dr. Marion Pardy, 37th Moderator, will be one of eight recipients named to the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. Dr. Pardy will be recognized for her humanitarian work by Her Honour, The Honourable Joan Marie Aylward, Order of Newfoundland and Labrador (ONL), Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“I am most pleased to receive this award as it is a recognition by my Province of Newfoundland and Labrador of faith-based, social justice leadership,” said Dr. Pardy. “I am indebted to my multi-faith colleagues and friends and to The United Church of Canada for a core conviction that we are called to work cooperatively and respectfully with all others for the ‘mending of God’s creation’.”
Dr. Pardy is a multi-faith social activist who confronts antisemitism and Islamophobia, and all religious prejudice and violence, wherever possible. She is a strong advocate of a guaranteed livable income (GLI) and works with Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs in her province for the implementation of GLI in Newfoundland Labrador, and Canada. She also is a member of the United Church National Guaranteed Living Income Network, in addition to the Atlantic and provincial region.
“The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador recognizes individuals whose dedication, leadership, and service have shaped our province for the better. This year’s recipients have made remarkable contributions in fields ranging from health care and public service, to culture, humanitarian work, and history preservation,” says Honourable Tony Wakeham, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. “Our cultural tapestry is richer because of their commitment—their achievements reflecting the very best of Newfoundland and Labrador. I congratulate each of them on this well-deserved honour.”
This is not Dr. Pardy’s first medal of recognition. Last year, she received the King Charles Coronation Medal in recognition of her leadership and commitment to interfaith community service. In 2013, the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador awarded Dr. Pardy a Queen’s Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contributions to church and community.
The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the province’s highest honour and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an exemplary manner the province and its residents. This will be the 19th investiture ceremony since the first appointments were made in 2004, bringing the total number of recipients to 167.
Each recipient receives a medal bearing the shield of Newfoundland and Labrador surmounted by the Crown, a certificate signed by the Chancellor and sealed with the seal of the Order, and a miniature medal and lapel pin. The medal is worn with a blue, green, white and gold ribbon. Members of the Order are entitled to use the initials ONL after their names.
