Moderator Kimberly Heath on the power of making the choice to answer God's call
Just over a year ago, I attended a retreat for ministry leaders in my region. I remember being reluctant to commit to it—I didn’t have time; I needed an advance more than I needed a retreat. Nevertheless, I said yes. The retreat used the Bibliodrama model—an immersive way to experience the scriptures. For several days, we entered the text of the Annunciation; Mary received the incredibly disruptive call to carry the Christ Child. And she said “yes.” At this retreat, I strongly sensed the Holy Spirit calling me to let my name stand for Moderator. A smaller call than Mary’s, but still disruptive and frightening.
It amazes me what happens when we take time to retreat and connect deeply to God: God still calls, still disrupts, and still leaves the choice with us. Do we say “yes”?
I’ve never regretted saying yes to God’s disruptive call. What about you?
