Anticipated Start Date: August 10, 2026
Description
We are inviting 10 Indigenous and 10 Racialized youth to join us for a meaningful and transformative retreat grounded in community, faith, and shared experience. Together, we will create space for connection, learning, and reflection, strengthening both our cultural identities and spiritual lives in relationship with one another.
This retreat is intentionally designed as a space for Indigenous and Racialized youth to gather, build relationships, and explore what it means to live out faith in ways that are rooted in empowerment and belonging. It is also part of The United Church of Canada’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and becoming an anti-racist church. Through shared experiences, participants will build community, develop leadership skills, and deepen their engagement with initiatives in The United Church of Canada.
Throughout the retreat, we will engage in a range of activities that encourage connection, joy, and reflection. This includes:
- Time on the land
- Sweat lodge (optional, with meaningful roles for all participants)
- Sharing circles for storytelling, listening, and mutual support
- Cultural exchange and community-building
- A visit to Hoopla Island
- Beach outings and time to rest and reflect
- Dancing, games, and creative activities
- Nightly fires with conversation and connection
- Nourishing meals and shared dining
All costs for travel, accommodations, and meals are fully covered by The United Church of Canada. Participants simply need to come prepared to engage, connect, and be part of the experience.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Are Indigenous or Racialized and between the ages of 16–25
- Have some connection to The United Church of Canada (local, regional, or national)
- Are interested in building community with other Indigenous and Racialized youth
- Are open to continued engagement in conversations and initiatives within the United Church
