Moderator Carmen Lansdowne has written to United Church communities of faith affected by the current wildfires in Western Canada. These fires have led to evacuations in multiple communities, including more than 20 First Nations.

In her pastoral letter, she notes our interdependence with each other and all of Creation, and reminds us of Jesus’ teaching of love and support for each other.

The Moderator shares prayers from across the church to the affected communities, and offers gratitude for the sacred work of healing and mending undertaken by communities, firefighters, and all who contribute to relief efforts.

We are grateful for the firefighters, police and medical services, municipal workers, and citizens who are opening their homes to evacuees. Thank you.

To those who are leaving their homes not knowing when you’ll return, our prayers are with you.
