A pilot project being launched in Quebec City on October 7 marks the first expansion of the Montreal City Mission (MCM), a community ministry of the United Church of Canada based in Montreal since 1910.

The Just Solutions program, a legal clinic focused on making justice more accessible and equitable, will be operated out of a new office at 910, Rue des Sœurs-de-la-Charité, Quebec City.

“For the first time in 115 years, MCM is opening an antenna in Quebec City,” says Rev. Paula Kline, Director. “Following the closure of Quebec City’s Legal Aid office, our new legal clinic will be the only one in the region dedicated to supporting migrants and refugees. At the same time, we will be expanding our ecumenical, interfaith, and community programming.”

The launch of the service in the new office takes place on Tuesday, October 7, and workshops will be held the following day focused on improving access to justice for migrant populations, and offering opportunities to connect with fellow professionals and stakeholders in the field.

The Nakonha:ka Regional Council of The United Church of Canada provided support and commitment, Kline says, which made the expansion to Quebec City possible. The United Church Foundation also contributed funds towards the expansion.

“MCM is a strong partner for justice. They do such amazing work and ministry, informed by their community and the people they serve,” says Sarah Charters, President of the United Church Foundation. “Their witness and work show God's love to the world. We are blessed to be a part of the work they do.”
