After prayerful reflection, The United Church of Canada has decided to step away from X.com (formerly Twitter). This choice reflects our deep commitment to fostering inclusive, respectful, and compassionate spaces—both online and in the world.

As a church rooted in justice, reconciliation, and love, we cannot ignore the increasing concerns around X.com’s role in amplifying harmful rhetoric, misinformation, and hate speech. Under the leadership of Elon Musk, the platform has become a less safe space—particularly for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, racialized people, and other marginalized groups.

The rise of hate-fueled attacks and disinformation—both online and in society—calls us to respond with integrity and to prioritize digital spaces that reflect God’s vision of love and justice for all people.

We recognize that social media is an important tool for engagement and connection, and while we are leaving X.com, we are not leaving the conversation. For the time being, our accounts will remain on X.com so we can direct our audience to follow us on other platforms, but we will no longer post new content on X.com, nor engage with others on the site.

We invite you to continue connecting with us on platforms that nurture meaningful dialogue and community-building:

Facebook
Instagram
LinkedIn

Also, we will expand our participation on additional social media networks in the coming year. Watch for The United Church of Canada on:

For years, we have shared in dialogue and witness on X.com, but this transition is a step toward living our faith in the digital world with integrity and purpose. We will continue to speak out against hate and injustice, to uplift the voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and to work for a world where all are truly affirmed, safe, and celebrated.
