Description
The Mission Support Working Group assesses applications for Mission Support grants from Indigenous Communities of faith and makes recommendations to the National Indigenous Council on apportions in accordance with the annual strategy and budget. Amongst other responsibilities, the working monitors prepares quarterly report narratives, develops an effective communication strategy, and ensures that the policies and procedures related to Mission Support grants are aligned with the principles and values outlined in the Calls to the Church. At this time the working group has 3-5 vaccancies.
Skills:
We are looking for lay and ordered members who have knowledge of Indigenous community, culture and practices, as well as skills such as financial analysis, knowledge of good stewardship practices, knowledge of the United Church’s personnel policy, creative thinking, or an understanding of the complex nature of community ministry and pastoral care.
Membership:
The working group will be made up of seven members, possibly including one member of the National Indigenous Council and one from the National Indigenous Elders Council. Staff resource for this working group are the Community Capacity Developers: Charlene Burns, Rey Anderson and Martha Pedoniquotte.
Term:
Appointments are for approximately three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term. There are a minimum of ten meetings each year, one held in-person and the remainder by video and teleconference call. Members will require access to the internet and email and the ability to participate in video and teleconference calls.
