What did you do?
Our table has been used as a place of connection and fellowship during many community outreach events that we’ve hosted at Trinity United Church. When we launched our table at our York Pride Parade, we saw people of all different ages, abilities, sexual orientations all sit together and enjoy conversation with one another. It provided a comfortable place to sit and watch the parade and enjoy a cold glass of water or lemonade on a hot day. Since then we have also added a dog bowl with water beside the table for our furry friends. We used the table again on Canada Day, we used the table to do crafts with children from the community, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who participated. On September 14 we held our annual fun fair which was attended by hundreds of families from our local community. The table allowed parents to have a place to sit while their children had fun playing the games. It also allowed parents to talk to one another, share stories and laughs.
Why did you do it?
We did it to connect more deeply with our community. Putting the table right by the sidewalk has welcomed the community to stop and engage with us. It also provides the opportunity for community members to learn about Trinity and what is important to us through the messages painted on the table.
