What did you do?
While waiting for our table to arrive, and as part of the introduction to the 100 Tables project, we sang "For Everyone Born, There's a Place at the Table" on three Sunday mornings. Our table arrived on Tuesday, July 22. On Sunday, July 27 the message related to how small things count, and how a cup of cold water could be a gift that provides nourishment both spiritually and physically. The congregation got to see the table, and how it would welcome all those participating in the walks and scavenger hunt during the upcoming village Nicholas Denys Days. A cup of water on warm days and evenings as well as fresh fruit and candy were offered. There were 80 participants in the poker walk and 47 participants in the scavenger hunt. All walked by our table and most stopped by for one or all of the above. We poured about 90 cups of water. This was considered our soft launch.
Why did you do it?
The overall message is that the church can be a visible presence in the community, whether it is in the church building or on the street. Secondly, a little kindness goes a long way.
