What do our neighbours need?

What did you do?

We had a local artist recreate the United Church of Canada crest, showing our connection to the history of the church; something we have been exploring for the Centennial during our worship services. We have also included the progress pride flag, and an image protesting the bombing of Iran. We have also included two phrases on the table, “Deep Spirituality, Bold Discipleship and Daring Justice” (the United Church’s Call), and “All are welcome here”.

When our tables are done, we plan to invite the community to help us continue to decorate them by adding to the table. We hope to host an event which will include a giveaway (like a free flea market) with clothing, household goods, hot dogs, and treats. We also plan to take our two tables to the Massey Fair, offering a spot for folks to come, sit and talk about our church.

We also had a baptism and all were welcome to put a hand print on our table. The tables will become a focus for more inclusive activities this summer and fall!

Why did you do it?

We want to show our community that all are welcome in a tangible way. As a small congregation we are gifted with lots of creativity. As we believe all are welcome to the church, we also believe all are welcome to add their thoughts to the 100 Tables project. In time we will share them with the community (we're in a great spot for doing that) and possibly make them a part of a service or two.
