What did you do?
We launched our table on July 9th, with the theme “Come join us at the table”. The road that our church building is located on is know locally as “sesame street” because of the number of children living there. We held events each Wednesday in July. These activates were geared towards those children or those young at heart. And what a time we had! Did I forget to mention there were snacks!
On the first Wednesday, everyone present was given the opportunity to put their handprint on the table and sign it, and on each subsequent Wednesday, those who were there for the first time were also given the opportunity to place their handprint on the table. On July 23, we held a community BBQ and invited everyone from the surrounding communities to “Come join us at the table”. The local youth provided the entertainment. At time of writing, we have one final event planned for July 30th, a movie themed activity with popcorn!
Why did you do it?
Scripture points out to us how Jesus would call the children to come to Him. In our Pastoral Charge, we often speak about how there are none or very few children coming to worship. We wanted to invite them to “Come join us at the table” and to get to know us and what we are about.
