What did you do?
Our council decided to commission our local artist (and parishioner) Tracy Oates to complete work for the launching of a table for our church's 100 Tables project in commemoration of our 100th Anniversary. Rev. Sellars supplied the logo, and theme, “I’m Gonna Eat at the Welcome Table.” Special Thank you to Official Board Chairperson Colin Clarke, and parishioner Cyril Whalen, for supplying transportation. This table will be part of a wider fall initiative to re-engage our congregation, as well as welcome newcomers, seekers, and visitors to be a part of a community of faith that wants to offer hope, peace, and belonging through a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. There will be a Welcome Back to Church Sunday on September 21st at 11 am, followed by a Family BBQ, and a Harvest Supper later in the season. The table was launched on Wednesday, September 10th. Some 45 people attended, representing a cross section of our congregation in all her diversity. People were excited to be a part of this event, and look forward to our congregation continuing to draw the circle wide, and to be the welcoming and affirming church that our Lord wants. We see it also as an opportunity to welcome sister congregations to become a part of wider centralized church over time, as was our experience as a national church in 1925.
Why did you do it?
Our context is changing, and we see this as an opportunity to grow the church, as well as become that welcoming and affirming congregation that Jesus our Lord wants us to live into.
