The stories from The United Church of Canada’s 2024 Strategic Plan Report highlight the global and local work the church is doing, and overall progress of the church’s strategic objectives. The report was released May 1 as a digital copy and will be available shortly in French on egliseunie.ca.

“As the United Church commemorates its Centennial, we’re answering the call to renew the church for the next 100 years,” says Rev. Jennifer Henry, Executive Minister, Organizational Development and Strategy. “The Strategic Plan helps the church realize our vision, working closely with regional councils across the country. These stories of progress from Year Two of our plan are engaging, inspiring, and compelling.”

For example:

  • In August 2024, delegates from The United Church of Canada joined alongside people who are LGBTQIA+, theology students, and faith leaders from more than 10 African countries in Maputo, Mozambique, for a transformative consultation on Human Sexuality and Gender Diversity in the African church context.
  • In Canada, the United Church’s goal of creating 100 new churches is making great strides; 25 migrant and diasporic communities are now on their way to becoming United Church communities of faith. These “church plants” include people from Filipino, Hong Kong, Korean, and African descent communities who are drawn by our invitation to the table.

This is the second annual report of the General Council Office’s 2023‒2025 strategic plan, with its five key strategic objectives. It brings together financial information, stories and data, all with a vision to reflect what the church aspires to be within a five- to 10-year span.
