For three days in December, the riverside retreat of Five Oaks Centre in Paris, Ontario, was home to 74 Francophone youth from five provinces. The National Francophone Youth Gathering was held December 19–21, 2025—three days of faith, football, and intercultural connections, on the theme of “Experiencing God Beyond Walls.” Youth from Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Alberta attended.

For the second year, The United Church of Canada's Ministries in French brought together French-speaking youth in a gathering that promoted intercultural communion and encouraged innovative forms of Christian witness in a changing world. The recently launched Faith and Football, an emerging ministry within Ministries in French, formed the foundation for the weekend’s activities, which included a futsal tournament. The upcoming 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico in June, offered more context for reflection on faith, social engagement, and justice.

“The second National Youth Gathering was a defining moment, marked by fellowship, innovation, and hope,” said organizer Luc Noubissi. “It confirmed the relevance of the Faith and Football Ministry as a tool for evangelism, social dialogue, and intercultural gathering.”

Moderator Kimberly Heath also attended for one day, participating fully in the futsal tournament, engaging in discussions with the youth, and joining them for meals and community time. At the end of the day, during a meeting with leaders from French-speaking faith communities and Ministries in French, she highlighted the Faith and Football Ministry as a source of hope and innovation for the church today.

The weekend event took place thanks to the strong support and leadership of Rev. Jennifer Henry, Executive Minister, Organizational Development and Strategy, and also included worship and teaching by Rev. Samuel Dansokho and Professor Martin Bellerose. Members of La Table of the Ministry in French were also present and supported the event.
