What did you do?
We used the idea of "all are welcome at the table" during our Orange Shirt Sunday, followed by a photo of all those who came out to explore how we can make space at the table for everyone, and especially our Indigenous neighbours and friends.
Our table was also the anchor for our accessible community trick or treat stop on Halloween! It drew great attention and we had over double the usual number of families stop by, get some treats and hear about our table and how everyone is welcome, just as they are at CEUC! We met a ton of new people in our community, and everyone had a wonderful time connecting.
Why did you do it?
The idea of the table, and sitting down to talk together and learn together was a great way to make the ideas of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation real and meaningful for our community today.
Halloween was also a perfect time to be out in the community, and using our table to attract attention allowed our minister (and friends) to connect with the community in a welcoming way that was super positive for everyone. A great night!
