The work towards a just peace in Palestine and Israel must continue.

The United Church of Canada again joins in the prayers and hopes of partners in Palestine and Israel and around the world at news of the latest ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
It is our deepest prayer that this ceasefire is a permanent one, and that the work of realizing a just peace in Palestine and Israel can press forward.
We express cautious optimism about the current ceasefire plan, and the deal to deliver humanitarian aid and the immediate, unconditional release of Palestinian and Israeli captives. We hope this also includes the humanitarians of the Global Sumud Flotilla, who were illegally arrested by Israel while in international waters.
We reiterate our asks for:
- a sustained ceasefire;
- unhindered delivery of food, water, fuel, and humanitarian assistance;
- the immediate, safe, and unconditional release of all captives, both Israeli and Palestinian, and the respectful delivery of the remains of deceased captives to their grieving loved ones;
- a comprehensive, two-way arms embargo to be imposed on Israel, including closing loopholes such as exports via the U.S., and
- an end to Israel’s military occupation and annexation of Palestine, paving the way for a just peace.
Because only peace rooted in justice can succeed.
