In the first episode of our series, the Moderator talks food, faith, and invitation with her daughter and niece over a Shrove Tuesday feast
Join us today for the debut episode of Kitchen Conversations with the Moderator, a new six-part series exploring faith, food, and the power of inviting one another to the table, hosted by The Right Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath.
Drawing inspiration and recipes from the United Church’s Lenten devotional, Bless Break Share, we’re breaking bread with guests from across the church throughout Lent, reflecting on how food can nourish both body and soul.
For our first episode, the Moderator’s daughter and niece join the conversation as they whip up a classic Shrove Tuesday blueberry pancake feast, filmed at the Moderator’s own home kitchen in Brockville, Ontario. The fun, heart-filled conversation touches on the history of Pancake Tuesday, classic dishes of celebration, what it means to gather at the table as a family, and the way food ties us all together.
“We have this amazing dining room table, it was in the old cottage when I was little and we’d play board games on it. My parents gave it to me when I got married, but it’s been in the family for well over 100 years. It’s the kind of table that opens up when we have a giant family dinner.... I kind of love that symbolism of the table that gets bigger.” —Moderator Kimberly Heath
Stay tuned for more conversations like this each Sunday throughout Lent, starting this weekend with Episode 2, where King Julez/Julian Rose joins the Moderator to bake a tasty frittata.
