As the power of nature rips away at our security, and the oncoming Hurricane Melissa, threatens to block our view of the majestic blue mountains,
we lift our trembling and anxious hearts to you in prayer,
Everlasting God.
Receive our prayers of comfort and support:
for the potential destruction of homelands and habitats in Jamaica, Cuba, and all in the path of Hurricane Melissa;
for those who are afraid for themselves, for loved ones, for their communities, and for the rich flora and fauna of these lands affected;
for those who fight tirelessly for climate justice and mourn the increasing severity of natural disasters; and,
for first responders and those who advocate for and provide equitable humanitarian aid, both during the eye of the storm and in the years of recovery and restoration to come.
Heartbroken and afraid, we know that we are not alone and trust that you comfort those who are suffering, gathering closer to those most afflicted by Hurricane Melissa.
Moving Spirit,
Unite people of good will to mobilize the helpers so that we are best able to offer needed aid and support;
strengthen the hearts of the comforters; and deepen the love we share for each other so that we may hold those made tender-hearted by this hurricane with compassionate care.
May we keep each other safe,
and strengthen each other in love.
Amen.
