Description

G7 Jubilee People's Forum and Public Action, Calgary, June 12-15
The United Church of Canada invites United Church members interested in debt cancellation, climate justice, economic justice and global solidarity to apply to be one of the four funded individuals to attend the G7 Jubilee People's Forum and Public Action being held in Calgary, AB from June 12-15 by KAIROS Canada. The United Church of Canada is a member of the KAIROS Canada.
The People’s Forum will be a place where people – pilgrims and activists from around the world and across Canada – will connect for community, learning, prayer and action during the G7 period.
The People's Forum will gather in the lead up to the G7 Leaders’ Summit (June 15-17) when representatives of eight of the most powerful economies in the world gather outside Calgary to discuss matters and make decisions that affect people the world over. Prior to this, we, the people of the world, will discuss the world in which we want to live. We will share experiences, our visions, wisdom and solidarity. We will build, from the ground up, a Jubilee world – where slaves and the indentured are freed, debts are cancelled, and the land is returned and allowed to rest. A world where economic and ecological justice and decolonization are the norm, not the exception.
See the Canadian Ecumenical Jubilee 2025 initiative for more information on the year-long campaign, led by KAIROS Canada in collaboration with Citizens for Public Justice, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada, the Office of Religious Congregations for Integral Ecology and The Canadian Council of Churches.
Ambrose University will be the venue for most sessions. The event runs from the evening of Thursday, June 12 to the afternoon of Sunday, June 15. Highlights of the event will include an interfaith worship service hosted by the Calgary Interfaith Council, a visit to the outdoor medicine wheel on Stoney Nakoda land, hearing Indigenous and Global partner voices, training in the Jubilee 2025 – Turn Debt into Hope campaign, and a creative public action in the heart of Calgary.
