United Church urges government to press for an independent investigation into the Israeli shooting of people engaged in rightful protest.

Published On: April 6, 2018

The United Church of Canada is deeply saddened about the Good Friday killings of 18 Palestinian protestors. As people of the resurrection, the United Church supports Palestinian and Israeli partners united in their desire to claim life over death, to end to the Israeli occupation, and to realize a just and lasting peace for both peoples.

The Executive Minister for the Church in Mission Unit, the Rev. Michael Blair, has written a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, urging the government to stand with United Church partners, the United Nations’ Secretary General, and the European Union, in calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the Israeli shooting of people engaged in the symbolic “Land Day” protest, and for an end to Israel’s blockade on Gaza.

The World Council of Churches, of which the United Church is a member, released this statement following the violence. The full letter from the United Church is available under Downloads, below.
