Course Description

Is it racist to sing hymns or anthems from a culture that's not your own? Should worship leaders be concerned or enthusiastic when they want to share a new piece of music that doesn't come out of North America or Western Europe? Can we celebrate Black History Month and Asian Heritage Month in appropriate ways that take those cultures seriously and contribute to understanding and respect?

Join us for a 90 minute webinar with Deborah Bradley to explore these key questions, as well as:

  • what anti-racism might look like in our music ministries
  • the myth of music as a universal language
  • strategies for introducing new hymns from different cultures
  • avoiding tokenism.

Who Should Attend

  • music directors
  • ministers
  • Worship Committee members
  • anyone else involved in decisions about music in worship
